Tim Baskerville is a veteran company builder and advisor to the data
publishing, media, and communications industries. As either a consultant or
roll-up-your-sleeves P&L leader, he’s unlocked value in organizations
ranging from startups to the Global 1000. His specialty is forging business
models where technology converges with content.
Among organizations Tim has either founded or led: JupiterResearch (New York), probing new media and personal communications technology; Kagan Research (Monterey, CA), analyzing financial metrics for investors and operators in the cable TV and broadcast businesses; Vidmar Communications (Hollywood), tracking trends in home entertainment; and Baskerville Communications (London), reporting on motion picture distribution, satellites, and wireless communications. His early career was spent in broadcast journalism as a staff writer-producer in San Francisco and Hollywood. In his spare time, he is co-author of the best-selling college textbook Music Business Handbook and Career Guide.
Before graduating from UCLA with a BA in Theater Arts/TV, Tim got his first job as Assistant Monkey Trainer in Las Vegas, responsible for cage hygiene. This position taught him to “smile and shovel,” a skill he later honed in assignments as a turnaround manager for private equity investors with portfolio companies in North America and Europe.
Wearing his angel hat, his investment themes include mobile apps, digital advertising, couponing, and B2B content. Current board memberships include HG Data Company, a Santa Barbara “big data” startup; and Wanted Technologies Corp., a data harvester listed on the Toronto Venture Exchange.
